In the journey of overcoming setbacks, it's crucial to find the right support tailored to your needs. As someone who has navigated through various challenges myself, I understand the importance of choosing between counselling, mentoring, and coaching. Personally, I turned to counselling to cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder following the unexpected loss of a dear friend in tragic circumstances while we were on holiday together. Through therapy, I gained strategies to manage flashbacks and nightmares, empowering me to pursue my dreams with confidence.
Mentoring involves a nurturing relationship between an experienced individual and someone less seasoned. Mentors offer guidance, encouragement, and wisdom, drawing from their own experiences to empower mentees. This reciprocal process not only benefits the mentee but also enhances the mentor's leadership skills and knowledge retention within an organisation.
As a Prince's Trust Mentor, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of mentoring on young individuals striving to achieve their aspirations. Additionally, I've been fortunate to receive guidance from mentors throughout my career, propelling me forward and instilling confidence in my abilities.
Coaching, similarly to sports coaching, focuses on maximising an individual's existing talents and improving areas of weakness. It's about unlocking potential, identifying opportunities, and taking decisive actions toward defined goals. Coaches provide accountability, driving clients to surpass their perceived limitations and achieve remarkable progress.
My own journey with coaching began in 2009 when I felt stuck in a cycle of stagnation and repetition. Through coaching, I gained profound insights into myself and my aspirations, igniting a transformative growth journey. Today, as an ICF Certified Professional Coach, I have the privilege of empowering individuals and organisations to unleash their potential and chart a path to success.
